On her work: "As a photographer, I often question why I am compelled to capture images of abandoned places. What draws me to them? What makes these ruins so beautiful to me?
Standing among the ruins, I am filled with questions. What has caused this place to be in such a ruinous state? Was it due to economic hardship? Was it an act of war? Was it a loss of Faith? Was it the death of the last survivor of a now forgotten family?
The architecture that we build, for whatever the reason, represents our culture throughout history. These buildings are monuments standing for our beliefs, describing how we live and what is important to us. Finding them in such decay makes me question what is important to us, when so many monuments, even small monuments that affect perhaps just one family, outlive their usefulness.
It is this sense of loss, be it large or small, that compels me to romanticize these remains and make them appear more dreamlike than the stark reality of their almost certain demise.
When I make an image, I want to create a strong message. I strive to create an emotional awareness in the viewer that encourages them to take notice of the loss that surrounds their everyday existence."
